1.   What should I wear? Do I have to show my belly?

Please wear comfortable clothing, but no shoes or sneakers. We suggest yoga pants and a t-shirt or tank top. You certainly don't have to show your belly, but may do so if you're comfortable. Hip scarves are also nice, so if you have one put it on! Now is the time to use it.

2.   Where can I get a hip scarf?

Baladi Fitness sells hip scarves.   Please contact us if you're interested.

4.   How long does it take to learn?

Everyone is different, and it really depends on the individual. If you take the time to practice at home, then you will certainly pick it up faster than someone who only dances in class. For some people, the movements come naturally while others have to work harder at "getting it." So long as the movements that you are doing are done safely, you can relax and have fun. The only way you're going to learn is by doing it, so just listen to the music, move your body, and dance!

5.   Where can I get the music?

Most of the music we use, we purchase online.   Some of our favourite artists include   Hakim, Amr Diab, Natacha Atlas, Ihab Tawfik, Dania.   Please refer to our resources page for links to our favorite websites (most of them have a "music" selection).   A simple Google search for belly dance music will yield many results.   Itunes is also a good, safe source (search "bellydance").

6.   Will I have to perform? / What if I want to perform?

No, a participant of Baladi Fitness will never be forced to perform in public. The Stylistic and Techniques Class is specifically designed for those interested in performing.
